Chỉ định và Liều dùng

Mouth/Throat
Sore throat

Adult: As spray: 4 sprays in the back of the mouth tid.
Child: ≥12 years Same as adult dose.

Oral
Upper respiratory tract symptoms associated with common cold

Adult: As soln: 30 drops or 1.5 mL tid. As syr: 1.5 teaspoon (7.5 mL) tid. As film-coated tab: 1 tab tid. Max treatment duration: 2 weeks. As chewable tab: 1 tab 4-5 times daily.
Child: 6-11 years As soln: 20 drops or 1 mL tid. As syr: 1 teaspoon (5 mL) tid. As chewable tab: 1 tab 2-4 times daily; ≥12 years As soln/film-coated or chewable tab: Same as adult dose.

Suy thận

Severe: Contraindicated.

Suy gan

Severe: Contraindicated.

Chống chỉ định

Severe renal and hepatic impairment.

Thận trọng

Patient with persistent or chronic cough associated with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema; cough with excessive phlegm, risk of bleeding. Treatment with a cough and cold medicine in children should be considered carefully due to potential risks and limited evidence on efficacy. Pregnancy and lactation.

Tác dụng không mong muốn

Gastrointestinal disorders: Gastric pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhoea.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Allergic skin reactions.

Monitor lasting or worsening symptoms within 7 days or fever that lasts more than 3 days.

Tương tác

May increase risk of bleeding with anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin).

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Pelargonium sidoides root extract is a traditional herbal medicine. It antagonises the bacterial adhesion to epithelia which prevents bacterial colonisation and infection in the upper respiratory tract. It also antagonises bacterial and viral adhesion in the tonsil and pharynx surface.
Synonym: south African geranium.
